C-Store was a column-store-based DBMS developed in collaboration by groups from several US universities (MIT, Yale, Brandeis etc.) with contributors and designers including Michael Stonebreaker and Daniel Abadi. Released in 2005, it was commercialized as Vertica, and the (BSD-licensed) free-software was abandoned after several years. It no longer compiles with modern compilers and library versions.
